NEW ZEALAND: Stunning Arrow River

SUBSCRIBE ► - Let's walk along the banks of the very scenic Arrow River which is a small icy cold river in Otago, South Island, New Zealand. The Arrow River is the tributary of the Kawarau River, which flows eastwards for about 60kms until it reaches Lake Dunstan. On the western bank of the Arrow River lies Arrowtown between the western slope of Crown Range and the head of the Frankton arm of Lake Wakatipu.
Arrow River has been made famous by gold deposits. The discovery of gold in the Arrow River led to the influx of many miners into the district. Owing to this gold rush, a large number of settlements sprang up near and around the gold digging areas and as a result, Arrowtown was formed. William Fox discovered gold in Arrow River and it was he who led the gold rush of 1860s. Initially from a small group of miners who mined gold secretly, a large number of people became aware and about 230 lbs of gold was recovered.
New Zealand is a sovereign island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The country has two main landmasses—the North Island (Te Ika-a-Māui), and the South Island (Te Waipounamu)—and around 600 smaller islands. It has a total land area of 268,000 square kilometres (103,500 sq mi). New Zealand is about 2,000 kilometres (1,200 mi) east of Australia across the Tasman Sea and 1,000 kilometres (600 mi) south of the Pacific island areas of New Caledonia, Fiji, and Tonga. Because of its remoteness, it was the last large habitable land to be settled by humans. During its long period of isolation, New Zealand developed a distinct biodiversity of animal, fungal, and plant life. The country's varied topography and its sharp mountain peaks, such as the Southern Alps, owe much to the tectonic uplift of land and volcanic eruptions. New Zealand's capital city is Wellington, and its most populous city is Auckland.
