Funnel cake dates back to medieval times, and the concept was brought to the United States in the late 1800's. It is commonly served at carnivals and sporting events. It is a very simple dish made with eggs, milk, flour, baking powder, and salt. The cake is then put through a funnel and fried in hot oil until golden brown.

Extra spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg can be added too. I top my funnel cake with powdered sugar which is common. They also can be topped with a fruit sauce, a glaze, or maple syrup.
